•Math: The Store – A series of Low Floor High Ceiling challenges based upon money. Focus: Learning about adding and subtracting decimals, learning how to keep a neat record in our math book, working collaboratively with a partner. •Fantastic Mr. Fox comprehension study questions and Bloom’s Taxonomy – How to write a good response. •PE: Large games: strategic planning and acting with your group •Silent reading daily •Buddy reading with Kindergarten am and pm classes. Arts-Centred Learning •blind contour drawing with Ewa Sniatycka •Chess: Checkmate puzzles chosen by Kennedy and Evan, our chess masters. Game play. Chess is a game which develops critical and strategic thinking. It grows each child’s skills around collaboration while competing. We learn how to behave when our best isn’t enough to win – yet. We learn perseverance as we gain knowledge, experience and learn strategic thinking. All of these are important for the arts and also necessary for success in life. Next Week •Quality of Life: What determines Quality of Life? •Math: Using base ten blocks to learn the addition algorithm •Writing: A collective story. We’ll create a story together using storyboarding and an object to inspire. •Drawing with Ewa. •Mr. Fox – continue comprehension study. •PE: Perhaps we’ll be able to play outdoors in the snow? Snowshoeing anyone?
